Area 15 Las Vegas: Ticket prices and best attractions

The best attractions at Area 15 Las Vegas are Omega Mart and the Lab – but the access pass system is confusing and the ticket prices are high.

What is Area 15 in Las Vegas?

Area 15 is one of the most welcome new additions to Las Vegas, but describing exactly what it is takes some doing. Effectively, it is a giant warehouse where a series of interactive games and immersive experiences have come under one roof.

It is most famously home to Omega Mart, the deeply weird art project that starts out as an unnerving supermarket, then becomes something altogether wilder. I’ve reviewed Omega Mart separately.

Area 15 Access Passes

The rest of Area 15, meanwhile, is spread over several levels, with bars and restaurants sprinkled between the high tech weirdness.

There’s plenty to have a go at, but the major problem is the needlessly confusing access pass system. These access passes are essentially tickets that get you into differing numbers of experiences. Some last one day, some last two days, some include Omega Mart and so on.

You can also end up buying an Access Level One pass that doesn’t include something you wanted to do that is included with the Access Level Two pass.

Access Level One pass at Area 15

For the purposes of this review, we’ll stick with what’s included under the $49 (plus tax) Access Level One pass. This unfortunately, doesn’t include a lot of the most fun stuff – such as the Birdly bird simulator, the Vortex Rover VR experience and the Augmented Reality Dodgeball. If you want to try them, you’re going to need to pay $99 for an Access Level Two pass.

Attractions at Area 15

Inclusions under the Access Level One pass include Brainstorm, which is a pleasingly silly futuristic take on an oracle reading. There’s also Wink World, where light shows pulsate to electronic dance music. This is an acquired taste that some will be enthralled by, others quickly bored by.

Much more fun are the laser maze, where you have to dodge the laser beams in a darkened room, and Bot Breach, which involves saving Area 15 from a menacing robot.

The Museum Fiasco light and sound show and the Liftoff Observation Sky Ride are included too. They’re decent, but not massively exciting.

The Lab section of Area 15

Alas, most of the best attractions in Area 15 are inside the Lab section, and require an Access Level Two pass. Going for level two turns a visit to Area 15 from a fun couple of hour to a close to all-day time investment. Both passes are expensive for what they are, but this is Las Vegas, and everything’s expensive.

Area 15 review: Is it worth the money?

Area 15 is undoubtedly lots of fun – if expensive. Like the ARTE Museum, Neon Museum or Museum of Illusions, it’s a great thing to do in Las Vegas besides gambling. It’s also a rare great thing to do in Las Vegas with children. But the price may well be off-putting to many potential visitors.
