How close is Mykonos Town to the cruise terminal?

Mykonos Town is 2.5km away from the cruise terminal at Mykonos New Port. It’s a horrible walk – take the Sea Bus water taxi instead.

Mykonos for cruise passengers

The party island of Mykonos is a very popular stop for cruise ships. Some would say too popular – this Greek island can get very overcrowded.

Most cruise passengers will spend their time on Mykonos exploring Mykonos Town, which is also known as the Chora. It is a whitewashed maze of tight lanes, shops, bars and cafés.

The Old Port of Mykonos is essentially in the town. This can trick cruise ship passengers into thinking they can stroll off the ship and explore the Chora pretty easily.

Where is the Mykonos cruise terminal?

This is a mistake. The vast majority of cruise ships and interisland ferries don’t pull up at the Mykonos Old Port. Instead, they dock at the Mykonos New Port, 2.5km to the north in Tourlos.

Walking from the Mykonos New Port to the Chora

It is, of course, possible to walk from the cruise terminal to Mykonos Town. But it’s a pretty horrible walk. The road hugs the hillside, making it steep in places. There’s also no footpath alongside the road for most of the distance.

The walk from the cruise terminal to Mykonos Town takes around 35 minutes, and you’ll likely hate every second of it.

Mykonos Sea Bus price

There is a bus that runs between the Mykonos Old Port and New Port, run by KTEL. However, it only runs every hour, and good luck getting a seat on busy cruise ship days.

By far the best way of getting from the Mykonos cruise terminal to the town is taking the Mykonos Sea Bus. This large water taxi has plenty of capacity and runs every half hour.

Tickets for the Mykonos Sea Bus cost €2 at the time of writing. You pay as you board.

Mykonos shore excursions

Of course, if you don’t want the hassle of organising transport on Mykonos, you can book one of several shore excursions. Options include a half day Mykonos highlights tour and a Jeep adventure tour.

Perhaps the best option, however, is the half day tour to the historic island of Delos. It’s not possible to stay overnight on Delos, and the island is effectively closed in the winter, but Delos is packed with stories and extensive ruins.
