Where locals eat and drink in Las Vegas

Six spots in Las Vegas where you can eat and drink with the locals, rather than thousands of tourists.

Beerhaus

Locals tend to avoid the Strip wherever possible, with the Beerhaus a notable exception – largely because it’s next to the T-Mobile Arena where the Golden Knights ice hockey team plays. In the atypically open air complex, it serves up an admirable range of Nevada craft beers, such as the Joseph James Citra Rye American pale ale and Bat Beat Bluffing hefeweisen.

Carson Kitchen

But the Downtown Area around Fremont East is where Las Vegans go for a night out. Carson Kitchen was the pioneer, with a warehousy look, rock soundtrack and an unashamedly rich, jazzed-up comfort food menu where crispy chicken skin can mingle with caviar and foie gras.

Park on Fremont

It’s arty meets party at Park On Fremont, which has wooden carriages and see-saws in the garden, with some rather risqué paintings and no-nonsense cocktails to go with them.

The Laundry Room

The Commonwealth is one of Downtown’s swankiest bars, but it has a speakeasy out the he back. You have to text a certain number to get into the Laundry Room, then you’re not allowed to use your phone once in there. It’s definitely not somewhere you’ll get a Bud Light…

Lotus of Siam

East of the Strip at the Red Rock Resort, there’s an argument for this authentic, family-run joint being the best Thai restaurant in the country. Lotus of Siam specialises in Northern Thai cuisine – and the dishes can pack searing heat.

7th and Carson

The woodfire oven’s the star at 7th and Carson, but there’s a commitment to whatever’s in season. The legs and eggs – tempura crab leg with barrel-aged ponzu – and the breads from the oven are something special.
