Planning a day trip to Antwerp from Amsterdam

Antwerp in Belgium is a tremendously underrated destination, with great museums, a big fashion scene and a fair few quirks. Visiting Antwerp as a day trip from Brussels makes sense, but is it feasible from Amsterdam?

Amsterdam to Antwerp train times

To make a judgement call on this, you need to look at the Amsterdam to Antwerp train timetable. According to the Trainline, there are 33 services from Amsterdam to Antwerp every day. That means you can leave early in the morning and come back late at night.

The quickest direct Amsterdam to Antwerp trains take an hour and 22 minutes, although most are closer to the two hour mark.

Amsterdam to Antwerp train ticket prices

The quickest Amsterdam to Antwerp trains are not the cheapest, however. The 1h22m journey is on the Eurostar trains. Looking two days in advance, these Eurostar services cost €79 one way. Take the slightly slower NS service, and the price was €44.30 for a one hour and 51 minute journey.

These are one way prices, so there’s a clear speed vs price decision to make if planning a day trip from Amsterdam to Antwerp.

Cheaper Amsterdam to Antwerp train fares

Book further in advance, however, and the Amsterdam to Antwerp train ticket prices are a little lower. Looking two weeks in advance on the Eurostar departures, most are still at the €79 mark. However, the NS train tickets go down to €21.

This makes Antwerp a relatively affordable day trip from Amsterdam, as well as a feasible one.
