Prague to Olomouc train times & ticket prices: A feasible day trip?

Relatively frequent – and cheap – trains make Olomouc a feasible day trip destination from Prague. But an overnight stay is recommended.

The appeal of Olomouc

Prague is not the only city in Czechia worth visiting, and Olomouc in the east of the country is one of the alternatives worth a look. Handsome buildings and excellent microbreweries make this Moravian city enjoyable to hang out in.

But is Olomouc a feasible day trip from Prague, or better treated as a second base?

Fortunately, there are several trains a day from Prague to Olomouc. According to the Trainline, the first of these Prague to Olomouc trains leaves at 05.47. It arrives in Olomouc at 07.59.

These train times and ticket prices make Olomouc a feasible day trip destination from Prague. Personally, I’d stay at least one night in Olomouc – it’s a city for hanging out in rather than ticking off tourist sites.

But if you’re plotting a Prague city break and want to experience a slice of Moravia, hopping on the train to Olomouc is a viable option.
