Gulf Shores Public Beach opening hours
The beach has no fixed gate hours and the sand itself is accessible around the clock, though this guide covers day-use planning rather than overnight beach access, which is discouraged under city rules. Paid parking is enforced from 7 am to 2 am, seasonally, between 1 March and 30 November each year; outside that window, most public lots are free.
Seasonal lifeguard coverage runs from March through October at designated swimming areas, with reduced or no coverage outside that period. Structures and equipment left on the sand after dark are removed by beach patrol, so plan to pack up each evening.
Gulf Shores Public Beach ticket prices
There is no fee to walk onto the beach itself. Parking fees changed on 1 July 2026 and were checked on the official website, last updated in August 2026:
Non-resident parking now costs $2 per hour north of Beach Boulevard and $3 per hour south of Beach Boulevard (both 6 am to 11 pm), rising to $4 per hour overnight from 11 pm to 6 am in areas where overnight parking is allowed. Overnight parking is prohibited after 2 am in the main beachfront lots. Gulf Shores residents with a valid Hurricane Re-Entry/Beach Parking Decal park free at all public lots; East Gulf Place remains reserved for residents only.
How to get to Gulf Shores Public Beach
Gulf Shores Public Beach is located at the southern end of State Highway 59, where the road dead-ends into the Gulf at Gulf Place. The nearest commercial airport is Pensacola International, roughly an hour’s drive away, with Mobile Regional Airport around 90 minutes away.
There is no free public trolley in Gulf Shores itself, so most visitors arrive by car or rideshare. Several private shuttle companies also serve hotels and vacation rentals across Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
Parking at Gulf Shores Public Beach
Parking at Gulf Place and the surrounding public lots is paid through the ParkMobile app, by text, or by toll-free call, rather than at a staffed booth. Rates depend on location: $2 per hour north of Beach Boulevard, $3 per hour south of Beach Boulevard, and $4 per hour overnight where permitted.
Gulf Shores residents park free with a valid Hurricane Re-Entry/Beach Parking Decal displayed on the windshield. Parking violations carry a $75 fine, with a further $75 charged for each additional 24 hours a vehicle remains in violation, and vehicles parked illegally for extended periods may be towed or booted.
