How to get to the Benalmádena Cablecar

By car, leave the A-7 motorway at exit 1003, signed Benalmádena – Arroyo de la Miel. By bus, take the Portillo lines 121 or 126 to the Tivoli stop. The local lines L1 and L2 also stop at Tivoli. By train, take the Cercanías service to Arroyo de la Miel. The lower station is in the centre of Arroyo de la Miel, so the walk from the station is short.

Parking areas are available close to the cable car. Older visitor reports mention free parking beside the former Tivoli World site. Confirm the current rules on arrival or by phone.

How long to spend at the Benalmádena Cablecar

Allow two to three hours. The return ride takes about 30 minutes in total. Add time for the lookouts, the bird presentation and a meal at La Cima.

Accessibility at the Benalmádena Cablecar

Folding wheelchairs, and chairs under 70 cm wide, can enter the cabins. Staff can slow or stop the cabin, and a ramp is available. Access for electric wheelchairs depends on the user’s ability to manoeuvre, so it is not guaranteed.

At the summit, the central lookout is close to the upper station and has no steps. The paths to the north and south lookouts have slopes and steps. They are not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

What to see at the Benalmádena Cablecar

The cable car ride. The journey covers 2,646 metres in cabins for four people. An audio guide plays in Spanish, English, French or German. You pass over the Tivoli World site and see Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa below.

The central lookout. This lookout is next to the upper station at 720 metres above sea level. Most summit activities take place here, and it has the easiest access.

The north and south lookouts. The north lookout faces the Guadalhorce valley. The south lookout faces the African coast. The Sierra Nevada lies to the east, and on a clear day you can see Gibraltar to the west.

The birds of prey presentation. The Valle de las Águilas Foundation runs the flight displays and it is not included in your ticket. Adults aged 12 and over pay €7 and children aged 3 to 11 pay €4. In August the shows start at 11:45, 13:00, 18:30 and 20:00, and times change by season.

The hiking trails. The summit is the starting point for six mountain itineraries through the Sierra de Mijas. They include the Stream of the Dead and Woodcutters’ trails. Mediterranean plants such as zahareña, rockrose and thyme grow on the slopes.

La Cima restaurant. The restaurant is next to the upper station, with a closed cafeteria and an open-air terrace. The official site also sells express menus as extras when you buy your ticket.
