Cairns Night Markets: opening hours, stalls, parking and tips – plan your visit

The Cairns Night Markets are a fully air-conditioned, indoor market complex located at 54–60 Abbott Street in the Cairns city centre, operating every night of the year. This guide covers opening hours, entry costs, what to find inside, parking, how to get there, accessibility, and practical tips for planning your visit.

Updated April 2026. Many other guides list an outdated address of 71–75 The Esplanade: the correct official address is 54–60 Abbott Street, Cairns QLD 4870. The market has two entrances — one on Abbott Street and one on the Esplanade — which accounts for the confusion in many published guides.

Beer and wine are available for purchase from licensed restaurants within the food court.

Opening hours and entry information were checked on the official website and Instagram account (@cairnsnightmarkets) and last updated in April 2026.

Five great things to do in Cairns

How to get to the Cairns Night Markets

The Cairns Night Markets are located at 54–60 Abbott Street in the Cairns CBD, with a second entrance on the Esplanade. Most CBD accommodation is within walking distance. The Esplanade entrance faces the Cairns Lagoon and waterfront area, making it easy to combine a visit to the markets with a walk along the Esplanade.

Sunbus routes serve the Cairns CBD and stop along Abbott Street and Sheridan Street. Taxi and rideshare (Uber) pick-up and drop-off on Abbott Street is straightforward. The nearest major transport hub is the Cairns Railway Station on Bunda Street, approximately 400 metres from the market.

Parking at the Cairns Night Markets

On-site parking is available directly above the Night Markets on Level 1. The car park charges $2.20 per hour, paid via the Easy Park app (cashless only). The car park also has EV charging facilities, described by the market as the fastest EV charger in Cairns City, operated via the Exploren app. Street parking is available on surrounding streets but becomes limited during peak evening hours.

How long to spend at the Cairns Night Markets

Most visitors spend one to two hours at the Cairns Night Markets. This allows time to browse the retail stalls, eat at the food court, and explore the full layout of the market. Visitors combining the Night Markets with a walk along the Esplanade, the Cairns Lagoon, or dinner at a nearby restaurant may wish to allow a full evening.

The food court is usable as a standalone lunch or dinner venue without visiting the retail stalls. A massage or wellness treatment adds 30–60 minutes to a visit depending on the service chosen.

Accessibility at the Cairns Night Markets

The Cairns Night Markets are located on a single level within an air-conditioned, undercover building, making them accessible for visitors who cannot manage outdoor heat or rain. The indoor layout is flat and negotiable by wheelchair and pram. Two entrances on Abbott Street and the Esplanade provide flexible access from different directions.

The on-site car park is above the markets on Level 1 and is accessed via ramp. Individual stall aisles vary in width depending on the section of the market.

Inside the Cairns Night Markets: what to see and do

The food court is the largest single section of the market and is open from 11:00am, well before the retail stalls. It offers a wide range of cuisines across multiple licensed and unlicensed vendors, with a strong focus on Asian-inspired dishes — among those noted by visitors are a large selection of stir-fry options, skewer stalls, bubble tea, and dessert bars. Western, European, and seafood options are also available. Meals range in price, with many options available from around AUD$8–$20. Beer and wine are available from licensed restaurants within the food court.

The retail stalls open from 4:30pm and number over 70, covering a wide range including: souvenirs and Australiana, clothing and beachwear, jewellery, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, opals, hats (including Akubra), phone accessories and repairs, homeware, and local handmade goods. The market has operated since 1991 and reports more than 2.7 million visitors annually.

The massage and wellness aisle is one of the most distinctive features of the market. Chinese massage operators, a head spa, tarot card readings, acupuncture, and iridology services are available from 12:00pm daily. Massage services are walk-in and do not generally require advance booking, though individual operators may accept appointments.

The Esplanade entrance connects the market directly to the Cairns waterfront. Visitors arriving from the Esplanade walk-side pass through this entrance and into the retail and food areas. It also enables easy movement between the market and the lagoon precinct.

Practical visitor tips

TipDetail
Visit the food court for lunchThe food court opens at 11:00am, several hours before the retail stalls. Visiting for a mid-morning meal avoids the busiest evening periods and is a practical option for visitors with early tour departures.
Arrive by 5:30pm to browse before the peak crowdThe market is busiest from around 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Arriving at 4:30pm when retail stalls open gives you access to the full market with fewer people.
Bring a reusable bagNo bags are provided by stall operators. A foldable bag is useful for purchases, particularly food-court takeaway and multiple smaller retail items.
Use the Easy Park app before you driveThe Level 1 car park requires the Easy Park app for payment. Download and set up the app before arriving to avoid delays at the machine. Cash is not accepted.
Compare souvenir prices before buyingThe Night Markets are one of several souvenir options in Cairns. If you are purchasing gifts, it is worth comparing prices with Rusty’s Markets and other Cairns CBD shops before committing to a purchase.
