Turner Falls Park in Davis, Oklahoma, has a spring-fed creek running through the park. The highlight, though, is Turner Falls.

It is by no means Niagara, but the water does tumble 77ft into a seductive pool at the bottom.

There are three different swimming areas in the park – Honey Creek, the pool at the base of Turner Falls and Blue Hole Pool.

Walks will take you past caves and whitetail deer, while there’s also a somewhat out-of-place castle that you can poke your nose inside.

Attractions between Oklahoma City and Dallas: Lake Murray State Park

Lake Murray State Park is the biggest state park in Oklahama and, as the name suggests, it surrounds Lake Murray. If you want to stay overnight, there are cabins, an RV Park and the Lake Murray Lodge available.

There are several hiking trails, but the park tends to be most popular with off-roaders. 1,000 acres is set aside for ATVs, motorbikes and dirt bikes.

For passing travellers, the highlight is the Lake Murray Nature Center at the southern end of the lake. This attraction covers the lake’s history and natural life. It is connected by a short path to Tucker Tower, a bizarre, 65ft-tall castle-like building on the lake’s shore.
