The Fraumünster opening hours
The Fraumünster opens from 10am to 6pm between 1 March and 31 October, and from 10am to 5pm between 1 November and 28 February. Last entry is 15 minutes before closing.
On Sundays, the church holds a service at 10am and opens to visitors from midday. From 25 June 2026, the church closes to visitors every Thursday between 11.30am and 1.15pm for an organ concert. Hours can change at short notice, so check the church’s events calendar before visiting.

The Fraumünster ticket prices
Tourist admission to the Fraumünster costs CHF 5 per adult, or CHF 4 per person for groups of five or more. Entry is free for children and adolescents aged 0 to 16, students with a valid ID, and Kulturlegi holders. Anyone entering to pray or sit quietly also pays nothing. Payment on site is possible in cash, by TWINT or by credit card.
The ticket includes the crypt museum, access to the “Altstadtkirchen Zürich” app tour, and an illustrated leaflet available in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. It also gives a CHF 5 discount on admission to the Kunsthaus Zürich, home to a representative collection of Chagall’s work. A combined ticket covering the Fraumünster and the Grossmünster tower costs CHF 8 for adults and CHF 2 for children, adolescents under 17 and students, instead of CHF 10.
The Fraumünster is included in the Zürich Card, alongside free or discounted entry to the Kunsthaus Zürich, the National Museum, the Museum Rietberg and the FIFA World Football Museum.

How to get to the Fraumünster
The nearest stops are Paradeplatz and Helmhaus, both served by tram and around a two-minute walk from the entrance. Timetables are available on the public transport network’s website. Visitors arriving by train can also walk from Zürich’s main station through the pedestrianised old town, following Bahnhofstrasse towards the lake. The Fraumünster is also part of the Zurich Museum Network, and is a short walk from its sister church, the Grossmünster.
Parking at the Fraumünster
Car access to Münsterhof square is permitted between 5am and 12pm, but parking there requires a permit. Public transport is the more practical option for most visitors. Access for deliveries linked to an event at the church is also possible after midday with a restricted-zone permit.
How long to spend at the Fraumünster
Most visitors spend 30 to 45 minutes inside the Fraumünster, covering the nave, the stained-glass windows and the crypt museum. Visitors using the audio tour or joining a private guided tour should allow extra time. Those also visiting the Fraumünster shop or reading the illustrated leaflet in full may want closer to an hour.
Accessibility at the Fraumünster
The entrance, nave, shop and exit are all accessible by wheelchair. The crypt museum is not accessible, and a few steps with a railing lead to the choir where the Chagall windows are displayed. Plans are in place to make the choir wheelchair accessible in future.
An audio induction loop and additional hearing aids are available for visitors who need them. The “Altstadtkirchen Zürich” app also offers a text version of the tour, in German, English and Spanish, for visitors who prefer to read rather than listen. A disability-friendly toilet is located to the right of the main entrance.
Inside the Fraumünster
Five stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall fill the choir. Installed in the 1970s, they were among the artist’s later commissions and depict biblical themes in his distinctive coloured glass. Photography for private use is allowed, though the windows are protected by copyright and tripods are not permitted.
The church also displays a stained-glass window by the Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti, which visitors can see as part of the same visit.
Beneath the church, the crypt museum holds the oldest surviving remains of the Fraumünster abbey. A multimedia exhibit covers more than 1,200 years of the city’s and the church’s history. The crypt may close temporarily on humid days to protect the exhibits.
The Fraumünster shop, in the transept, sells a curated range of goods, including items with Chagall window motifs that are not available elsewhere.
The free “Altstadtkirchen Zürich” app offers a self-guided tour covering the Reformation, the church’s history and the windows. It is available in English, German and Spanish, with an audio track that requires headphones, and a full text version for reading.
Guided tours are available alongside self-guided visits. Public tours run in German on selected days, while private tours can be booked in English. Groups of up to 30 people may visit without their own guide.
The church also hosts a regular lunchtime organ series, “Orgel am Mittag”, performed on the Fraumünster’s organ.
