Inside Philbrook: what to see

The Philbrook collection contains more than 16,000 objects, with a focus on modern and contemporary American art, Native American art, and European art.

The museum occupies a 72-room Italian Renaissance-style villa originally built for oil tycoon Waite Phillips in the 1920s. The villa’s rooms and architecture form part of the visit experience alongside the permanent collection.

Current temporary exhibitions (as of May 2026) include Andy Warhol: Silver Clouds (running until 14 June 2026), Gordon Parks Photographs from the Beach Museum of Art (until 19 June 2026), and Marie Watt: Heart in the Sky (until 14 June 2026). The Édouard Vuillard new acquisition display runs until November 2026. Check the exhibitions page for the latest listings.

The 25-acre gardens are a significant part of the visit. They include formal lawns, seasonal planting, and sculptures. Picnicking is encouraged. A limited number of tables and chairs are provided; visitors are asked not to bring coolers or additional outdoor gear except at special events.

The Wildflower Café on the main level offers grab-and-go food and beverages. Food and drink are permitted in the Guest Lounge but not in the galleries. Artists wishing to sketch or paint during their visit may do so, subject to Philbrook’s Artist Guidelines.
