Inside the Hollywood Museum: what to see
The museum holds around 10,000 items of film and television memorabilia, spanning silent films through to contemporary productions. The building was the original home of cosmetics pioneer Max Factor, and his restored make-up rooms — each designed for a different hair colour type — form one of the permanent highlights on the ground floor.
Upper floors are arranged around themed exhibit areas covering Hollywood’s golden era, film noir, television history, and contemporary productions. Items on display include costumes, props, scripts, and personal effects from notable productions and performers.
Current rotating exhibits as of July 2026 include Hollywood Goes to War, Superhero Legends, Marilyn: A Centennial Celebration, Laurel & Hardy, and The Dungeon of Doom. Exhibits are subject to change; check the official site for the latest list before visiting.
Photography is permitted throughout the galleries for personal use. Flash photography, tripods, monopods, and video cameras are not allowed. Notes and sketching are permitted in pencil only.
