How to get to the Long Beach Museum of Art
LBMA Ocean is on Ocean Boulevard on Long Beach’s oceanfront, at the corner of Kennebec Avenue. It is roughly 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
LB Transit bus route 121 stops directly in front of the museum. It runs every 20 to 30 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes at weekends, from around 5:00 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Additional routes 21, 22, 23, 91, 92, 93, and 94 all stop within a short walk.
Parking at the Long Beach Museum of Art
A free car park with EV charging stations is available in the museum’s own lot on Ocean Boulevard, one block west of the main entrance. This is the easiest option for most visitors arriving by car.
Metered parking is also available on the beach. To reach it, turn off Ocean Boulevard at Junipero and follow the road to the beach car park. A flight of stairs connects the beach car park to the museum. Accessible parking is free at the museum’s own lot.
How long to spend at the Long Beach Museum of Art
Most visitors spend one to 1.5 hours in the galleries. Allow extra time for Claire’s at the Museum, the oceanfront restaurant on the same campus, if you plan to eat.
The sculpture garden and the views from the grounds are worth a few minutes on their own. The LBMA also has a separate Downtown location at 356 E 3rd St, Long Beach, which requires a separate visit.
Accessibility at the Long Beach Museum of Art
All galleries and facilities at LBMA Ocean are accessible to wheelchair users and visitors who cannot use stairs. An accessible ramp entry is on the corner of 19th Place and Ocean Boulevard, leading to the Hartman Pavilion and museum grounds. A second ramp entry is on the east side of the Anderson House, near the restrooms.
Free wheelchairs are available in the lobby on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserve in advance by calling (562) 439-2119 or emailing Visitor Services. Every restroom on site is wheelchair accessible. Service dogs are welcome throughout the building and in Claire’s. Emotional support animals are not permitted.
