In terms of swimming at Callala Beach, it is reasonably safe. The combination of a shallow bar and the Beecroft Peninsula preventing surf getting too high and rough.
But it is unpatrolled. If you want lifesavers patrolling between the red and yellow flags, aim for Hyams Beach instead.
