There are four direct Prague to Linz trains per day, with ticket prices starting at €19.
Linz on European rail trip
Linz doesn’t tend to get as much tourist attention as other Austrian cities – notably Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck. However, this city on the Danube has a few strong attractions – particularly the Ars Electronica Center.
If travelling around Europe, Linz is at least worth considering as a stop.

Visiting Linz from Czechia
Most visitors to Linz will come from other Austrian cities, but a few approach from Czechia to the north. The easiest way to do that is on the train from Prague.
Five great things to do while you’re in Prague
- Discover Prague’s communist history and nuclear bunkers on a Cold War-themed tour.
- Let a knowledgeable guide explain the highlights on a Prague Castle tour.
- Learn Czechia’s World War II history on a day trip to the Terezin concentration camp.
- Combine Czech beer with some of Prague’s best dining on a food and beer tour.
- Cover more ground in less time on a Prague bike tour.
Prague to Linz train ticket prices
According to the Trainline, tickets for the Prague to Linz train cost from €19. This is usually when booking in advance and taking the earliest service of the day, but crucially it is a direct train.
Prague to Linz train timetable
At the time of writing, the first direct Prague to Linz train of the day departs at 06.20, arriving in Linz at 10.06. That makes for a journey time of three hours and 46 minutes.
There are further direct OBB train services from Prague to Linz at 10.20, 14.20 and 18.20. Of course, you can take one of several indirect services, but it’ll take longer and cost you more.
Breaking the journey in Cesky Krumlov
One reason to pick an indirect service, however, is that it allows you to stop at Cesky Krumlov on the way. The most beautiful town in southern Bohemia, Cesky Krumlov is known for its Renaissance-painted buildings, scenic setting on the Vltava River and restaurants serving giant pork knuckles.
Take the train from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, then transfer from Cesky Krumlov to Linz, and you will probably have a more engaging itinerary.
