Why Sunday is the cheapest night in London

The cheapest night to stay in London is Sunday. This is because the weekend leisure visitors have generally gone home, and the midweek business travellers haven’t arrived yet. It’s also the night off for most West End shows.

This means that if you want to spend a couple of days in London, the smart tactic is to arrive on Sunday morning, stay on Sunday night and depart on Monday evening.

It also means you can stay in a higher class of hotel on a Sunday night than you might do on other nights of the week.

How much cheaper are London hotels on Sundays?

But how big a saving can you make on London accommodation by staying on a Sunday night? Well, let’s have a look at a couple of hotels three weeks out.

The Doubletree by Hilton London Bridge is the sort of solid four star where bargains can usually be found on Sunday nights.

Searching three weeks in advance for a September stay for two adults, a double cost £140 on the Sunday night. The next cheapest night was £178, and every other night cost between £260 and £515.

Z Hotel Piccadilly prices

There are even bigger bargains to be had, however. Checking with Agoda for the same dates, the four star Z Hotel Piccadilly is listed for £105. On other nights of the week, this solid London hotel costs between £145 and £235.

This pattern repeats for most hotels, but the bigger and more business-focused the hotel is, the bigger the Sunday night discount tends to be. See for yourself here.

That, of course, leaves you more money to spend on London activities and experiences.
