How close is Salzburg Airport to the city centre?
Salzburg is one of the prettiest cities in Europe, but it is surprisingly compact. And, unusually, the airport is fairly close to the city centre.
This may lead some visitors to think about saving money by walking from Salzburg Airport to the city centre or vice versa.
The walk from Salzburg Airport to the city centre is about 5km long. That should take most people about an hour and five minutes.
Salzburg airport taxi price
The cost of a taxi from Salzburg Airport to the city is around €20 – slightly more if traffic is not in your favour. Alternatively, you can take the number 10 bus from Salzburg Airport to the city centre. It departs every 15 minutes during the day, with tickets costing €2.40.
Why walk from Salzburg Airport to the city?
Just because you can walk from Salzburg Airport to the city, it doesn’t mean you should. There are several very pleasant walks in Salzburg – notably the one from the Hohensalzburg Fortress across the Monchsberg hill. The walk to and from the airport, however, is not one of them. It passes through mundane, modern areas of the city. Just pay the couple of euros for the bus ticket instead.
